Estyn Inspection Report June 2024
Between June 17-20th 2024 Cosheston VC School was inspected by Estyn – the team looked at the work of the school over the last academic year.
We are delighted that our many strengths have been celebrated and recognised within the report which is testament to the hard work and commitment of the staff and Governors.
There are many references to the strong wellbeing focus of the school, our community links, and to the stimulating and inspiring opportunities offered in our curriculum that engage all pupils. The report refers to how pupils are developing their skills in literacy, numeracy and digital competency, however we need to focus on developing these across the curriculum more progressively and with greater challenge for older learners, in order that the best possible progress is made by each child.
The report states we have a strong culture of safeguarding and that our provision for learners with additional needs is good.
Collaboration between the two schools (Cosheston VC and St. Aidan's VA) is highlighted as a strength, that leadership provides clear and strong direction and that staff within school are developing their leadership roles well.
The recommendation (and other highlighted points) will be incorporated into our School Development plan for the next academic year and all actions will be acted upon quickly. We look forward to making swift and effective progress in the actions aimed at raising standards for the older pupils referenced in the report.
The safeguarding issue referred to in the other recommendation is regarding having a fob entry system on the portacabins. Estyn have requested it is installed. The Estyn team were informed during the inspection that the Local Authority have scheduled the work for the summer holiday.
